Why this Work Matters to Me

I believe gender-based violence is preventable, and that prevention starts long before anything goes wrong. It lives in everyday moments: how we talk to each other at the end of a long shift, how a coach sets the tone in the locker room, how a friend speaks up when a joke goes too far. Those moments add up, and they shape the kind of workplaces and communities we all get to live in.

I've chosen this work because I've seen what happens when people are given the space and tools to have real conversations. Men and boys step up as leaders and allies. Women and girls feel strong, heard, and supported. Young people grow more confident in who they are and what healthy relationships look like. Two-Spirit, LGBTQIA+, and gender diverse people feel seen, valued, and safe to be fully themselves. Crews and teams look out for each other in new ways. That's where lasting change comes from, not from being told what to do, but from people recognizing the strength they already have and choosing to use it.

Everyone has a place in this work. No matter your gender, age, culture, background, or where you call home, you belong in these conversations, and your voice helps shape what comes next.

Positive change doesn't need to be big and dramatic. It grows steadily, one conversation, one crew, and one community at a time. This is a story we all share, and one we get to grow together.
